Chemutai Job Alunga is a Research Scientist (Coffee Breeder-Geneticist) working with the National Coffee Research Institute (NaCORI); one of the 16 public research institutes under the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) in Uganda. He specializes in crop variety improvement (Cocoa and coffee), and collection and conservation of breeding germplasm. He is actively involved in promoting good agronomic and post-harvest handling practices of cocoa and coffee. Privately, he is an agro-entrepreneur who produces coffee, cocoa, and tree-planting materials and is a commercial tree planter. He has co-authored various coffee and cocoa production manuals and offers specialized coffee and cocoa growing consultancy services to farmers and stakeholders tailor-made to improve production, productivity and quality. He is an advisor to World Coffee Research (WCR) on coffee breeding and variety improvement under the International Multi-location Variety Trial project (IMLVT-East African Breeding hub). He is an active member of various Plant Breeding Associations, and a member of various professional bodies in Uganda and internationally including; The Quality Assurance Association of Uganda (QUAAL). Beyond his routine professional work, he is passionate about farming, entrepreneurship, reading, travelling and meeting new people.
